Sergio Bernal was born in Zaragoza. He is an active soloist, chamber
musician, lied and opera accompanist. He studied under the tutelage of
excellent pianists and pedagogues such as Luiz de Moura Castro, Carles
Marqués and Mª Pilar Armijo, and he is also strongly influenced by Pedro
Carboné, György Sandor, Mª Jesús Crespo, Ewa Kornichewska and André de
Groote. Bernal graduated and earned the highest academic awards in
piano, chamber music, music pedagogy, solmization, music theory,
transposition and accompaniment at the “Conservatorio Superior de Música de Zaragoza” and later at the “
Bernal was awarded the “I Beca de Piano Luis Galve”, which allowed
Bernal to receive advice and guidance from the acclaimed Aragonese
pianist. He also was awarded the extraordinary end-of-course prize
bestowed by CAI for Chamber Music. Bernal received from “El País” an
important Grant for professional improvement in 2001.
On an international level, between 1998 and 2004 Bernal collaborated with the Ecole Européene de Perfectionament de Chant Lyrique (Brussels).
Associate teacher from 2000 to 2004 at the “Conservatorio Profesional
de Música de Orihuela (Alicante)” as a teacher of piano and chamber
music, he also is the president of the Association “Collegium Musicum”
and musical director of the Music International Course “Ciudad de
Orihuela”. He is currently a piano teacher at the “Conservatorio
Profesional de Música” in Zaragoza (since 2004), combining his
educational work with performing and researching. Master in Musical
Searching and Performing by the “Universidad Internacional de Valencia”
and Ph studies at the “Universidad Autónoma de Madrid” and “Universidad
de Zaragoza”. He is the author of articles on music (Music for and by Children Journal or Learning Styles Review)
and the book entitled “Valtorres Música y Tradición”, an in-depth
research book into ethnomusicology sponsored by the government of Aragon
and Institución “Fernando el Católico”.
Bernal is a member of Dúo Francés-Bernal and Manebae Piano Duo,
and he performs with other musicians on a regular basis, developing an
intense and fruitful activity in the field of chamber music. He has
given courses on piano and chamber music, imparting master classes and
participating in the “Festival and Stage de Musique Farnieres” (Bélgica)
with solo piano recitals and chamber music performances.

He received a scholarship based on his academic merits by the Ministry
of Foreign Affairs, and extended his education/musical training in the
